At a time when Indian youngsters are complaining about unemployment, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the tech unit of Tata Group, is struggling to hire people due to a significant skill gap

TCS has 80,000 open job positions but is finding it challenging to fill them, the Times of India (TOI) reported, citing Amar Shetye, the global operations head of TCS’s Resource Management Group (RMG).

Shetye noted that there is a mismatch between the skills of current employees and the roles needed, forcing the company to rely on contractors to fill these gaps.

“We were told that either skillsets or employee aspirations are not matching project requirements,” an anonymous employee told the publication.

In response to this report, several users took to X to share their experiences and reactions.

“Skill gap or salary gap? It seems lot of GCCs are recruiting with better pay than Indian MNCs,” a user wrote on X.

“Unskilled individuals and their unwillingness to upgrade their skills is one of the main reasons for unemployment in graduated youngsters!!,” another wrote.

“The skill upgradation is necessity , not only to keep businesses running , but to enable future growth Else this may be biggest detriment in Indian growth,” a third wrote.

“Most people don’t like the work culture here , another imp reason why so many vacancies…My brother had to quit job at TCS due to medical reason because TCS won’t accept for wfh!,” a fourth added.
